Bell Gully is a leading New Zealand law firm. As one of the oldest established firms, 175 years, our history is deeply embedded in New Zealand business.

Being a leading firm requires commitment, continuous improvement and conviction. Being the best requires that our people are connected and committed to the communities in which we work and live. We work continuously to create an office environment where our people not only feel challenged, supported and encouraged, but where they enjoy work at the same time.

Graduate recruitment at Bell Gully

Bell Gully’s graduate recruitment is primarily realised through our summer clerk programme, and it is a great way to start your career. Where capacity demands it, Bell Gully also recruits graduates straight out of university, and provides a comprehensive training programme and support framework when you join the firm.

We recruit well-rounded candidates with a strong work ethic. We value diversity, and recognise it as a source of our competitive advantage.

Opportunities for both summer clerk and law clerk roles are advertised on our social media pages, on GradConnection and on our website.

The Bell Gully Summer Clerk Programme

Summer clerking at Bell Gully is the first step in your career with us. From day one we start to invest in you. You’ll begin to learn the skills which you will continue to develop through your career. We identify the knowledge and skills that you will need to develop over time and our focused training programme will help to get you there.

In the Bell Gully Summer Clerk Programme you get to rotate through three different departments, which means that you have the benefit of experiencing three different teams, three different areas of law, and it gives you a chance to see how the different departments of Bell Gully work together as a firm.

When you start as a summer clerk with Bell Gully you’re assigned a junior lawyer as a buddy, who will help you make the most of your time with Bell Gully – from the moment you receive your offer, right through the summer, and beyond. There is also a member of HR dedicated to the summer clerk programme in each office. They’ll help you settle in, answer any questions you might have, and advise you over the summer.

We recognise that there is more to being a successful lawyer than just knowing the law. When we plan our programme, we listen to our lawyers, our clients and our summer clerks from previous years. Our leadership modules complement your time in the departments and focus on developing leadership skills, commercial skills, and personal skills.
